I’ve done countless interviews for radio shows, newspapers, and podcasts, as well as live presentations of various kinds. But tomorrow, I’ll appear in my first TV interview—on a live broadcast, no less!
As I mentioned last week, Take Control Books is donating $1 from every copy of Take Control of Thanksgiving Dinner sold in November to the San Francisco Food Bank. As another part of that effort, I’ll be appearing as a guest on CBS-5’s Eye on the Bay this Tuesday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific time). This episode is a special live broadcast from an Albertson’s supermarket here in San Francisco to promote the Food Bank. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, set your TiVo now!
I’ll probably be on the air for just a few minutes during the half-hour show, partly to talk about the Food Bank and partly to promote my book (which, in turn, supports the Food Bank). Wish me luck!

How’d the TV Interview go?

Brian: Thanks for asking. The interview was fine, but extremely short; I was on the air for maybe a minute total, and spoke about three sentences. (I was on toward the end, and some of the earlier stuff ran a bit long, so they had to shorten my piece.) I keep thinking the station will post the video on their Web site, but there’s usually a lag of several days and it’s not up yet.
Anyway, there really wasn’t much to it, certainly not enough to justify how nervous I was about it! But it was nice to feel like I was helping out the cause in some small way.

I know I was nervous just when I was doing a public radio interview. I can imagine if I were doing TV. I’m glad it went well, and hopefully next time, it’ll be a bit more substantial of an appearance. Perhaps it was a good way of breaking you in: all the prep work for TV, with just a tiny opportunity for something to go disastrously wrong. ;)

The TV station finally posted the video of the show I was on:

You have to watch the commercial, and then wait for the whole thing to buffer, and then move the slider ahead about 4/5 of the way through the show to see my unexciting little segment.
